Virj turned 22 months last weekend (Sep 20) when we were spending time at Inverness at our friends, Felix and Lalitha’s vacation home. Inverness is around 19 miles from the Point Reyes Lighthouse. We were forced to do this getaway due to construction work at home. Soam took the weekend off from work (yes, that’s right!) while Felix and Lalitha were visiting but spent the rest of the days working. We spent the weekend on the Shell Beach in Inverness (on the Tomales Bay), visiting Point Reyes Lighthouse and hiking around Bear Valley. Virj has been to the beach before but hasn’t played so extensively with sand or in the water, so it turned out to be a pretty adventurous 22 month celebration for him. Though our vacation ended with the weekend, Virj’s continued well into the week. In fact, his vacation had started the moment our construction began and he was going to his nanny’s house during the day. Every new place he went to gave him more opportunities to explore and test our patience We had a tough time childproofing the hotel rooms and the Inverness house. I was tired of keeping a constant watch on Virj while at Inverness — he tried escaping through the doors, almost fell through one of the windows on the second floor, fell off the stairs few times trying to slide down and went on a wild rampage of the kitchen, a place that’s off limits to him in our house. Overall it was good trip and now that our bathroom looks gorgeous, we can reminisce on the last fifteen days with some fondness!

Our bathroom is finally done after almost two weeks of work and us being evicted from the house for this period. I kept a log and took pictures but never got the time to publish them so far. We were also away from our house on forced vacation last weekend and don’t have images of the work at every stage. Here are some pictures to show the progress:

Can’t wait to use the shower again! So far we have been going to the gym to take showers and it’s not as satisfying as a nice long shower at home!

After searching numerous referral channels, talking to several contractors and handymen and gathering estimates that vastly varied from each other, we finally decided to bite the bullet and get the work done. What started off as a minor repair work in the shower area that we thought we could fix ourselves over a weekend, ended up being a full remodel of the bathroom. So currently our lives have been totally disrupted by this damp in the wall. As you can imagine, it’s difficult to deal with it especially with a very active and curious toddler in tow. I have decided to document the work-in-progress here, so that we can reflect upon it later and justify shelling out the extra bucks!

Virj likes playing with water and getting all wet n’ messy. So, we’ve been trying to include that in his regular playtime activities this summer. Watch him splash in the kiddie pool with his buddy Alex and play with the garden sprinkler. Sand or water, the bucket and shovel always comes handy!
