18-month baby!

Virj completed 18 months on May 20, yay! So we took a few minutes out of our busy day to celebrate it with a cup cake, candle and card. Well, it was our first card to Virj…I felt the need to reciprocate after I received one from him on mother’s day…haha! I’ve saved the gift for later when he is bored of his existing new toys. Here are some pics of the 18-month old!

One huge progress he made this week was to start eating non-pureed food…wow, what a relief, had to happen sooner or later…

First trip to ER

From what I hear a trip to the emergency room is inevitable especially for parents with active boys. There’s always a chance of breaking a body part, which we dread every time Virj jumps off a chair or tries to reach something high up while standing on a table. But our visit to ER happened earlier than we expected and for an entirely different reason.

A week ago on a Saturday morning, Virj woke up with fever and continued to run high temperature (around 104 degrees Fahrenheit) throughout the day even with fever meds. We were concerned especially because it was the weekend and we knew we wouldn’t be able to see his doctor till Monday. So, after a lot of debate (well, Soam is an optimist and I’m not quite so :), we decide to take him to the emergency room in the Mills Peninsula hospital.

We got to see a doctor after waiting for 5 hours and Virj was diagnosed with ear infection, and prescribed antibiotics. He has recovered nicely but I know I’ll re-think before taking him to ER again. Soam was right after all, it’s awful waiting at the hospital with a sick baby. Better to switch to a pediatric clinic that is open 7 days a week!

I didn’t have the camera on me at the hospital but took a picture of Virj when we got home. He looked sick and frail but still had the energy to read his favorite book!

Happy Mother’s Day!

I have always been very close to my mom and so celebrating mother’s day was important to me. But only after I became a mother myself, I realized the true significance of the day! Being a mother is not easy, it requires a lot of patience and sacrifice and not to mention the physical toll it takes in the first few years…. So setting aside a day to celebrate our efforts is the least we can do for ourselves!

Last year, I was too exhausted to celebrate mother’s day and took the time off to catch up on sleep. Unfortunately, this year hasn’t been much better since Virj has been sick all of last week. We’ve been up a lot of nights in the past few days and are exhausted. But that didn’t matter when I received my mother’s day card from Virj yesterday morning. Of course it was Soam who wrote the card but made Virj sign and scribble on it. It was very sweet, so I thought of posting a picture of it 🙂

I’m also taking this opportunity to post some pictures of Virj with my mom and me. My mom was here last spring, so Virj was only 4.5 months in this picture. I miss her and wish I could celebrate the day with her!

Dealing with a sick baby

Virj hasn’t been doing well lately, he has had a cold off and on and his doctor keeps saying it will pass over and is nothing serious. But I really panicked yesterday night when he threw up for the third time in the day while coughing and ran up a temperature. I was determined to take him to the emergency room but my husband reasoned with me (over a heated discussion of course 🙂 and we decided to call the nurses’ hot line instead. As usual we got the same old questions and suggestions from the nurse…honestly, I’m getting tired of the medical system in this country. I expect a little more diligence from a pediatric clinic at least! Anyway, finally we decided to try out some of the remedies and wait out the night. Virj is doing a little better since morning but still has fever and we managed to make an appointment with the doctor to see him today. Hopefully, we will get a treatment this time that doesn’t involve feeding honey and having the humidifier on at night!

Celebrating Alex’s birthday

Virj’s buddy Alex just turned two last week on April 23rd and we celebrated the occasion with cake, balloons & gifts. The two kids had a lot of fun. Here are some pictures from the day. Unfortunately, I couldn’t capture Alex giggling while trying to light candles at the same time!
